Pierre de Coubertin Award Recipient – Jake De La Motte
Each year the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) Awards recognise the efforts of selected senior school students for the prestigious Pierre de Coubertin Award. The Pierre de Coubertin Awards are a major program of the Australian Olympic Committee’s school education strategy and have been held every year since 1995.
The awards recognise high school sporting achievers whose endeavours, both on and off the sporting field, exemplify the philosophies of the modern Olympics and those of their founder, Baron Pierre de Coubertin.
The 2013 Pierre de Coubertin Award has been presented to Year 12 student Jake De La Motte in recognition of his outstanding achievements and contribution to sport at Ashwood School. He joined students from across Victoria, who also qualified and was presented with The Pierre de Coubertin Award on Sunday the 16th of June at the Melbourne Cricket Grounds (MCG).
Jake is a member of the Victorian State Basketball training squad. He plays in several basketball clubs outside of his school including Waverley Basketball Club and the Donvale Basketball Club.

Jake was one a few students chosen to participate in the Special Olympics and is winner of the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Jake has represented the school in Softball, Netball, Soccer, and Basketball and has participated in many Cross Country running events. Jake exhibits the school values of respect, passion and optimism, responsibility and integrity and this year was voted in as House Captain and School Captain.
The award ceremony was attended by Olympians past and present and this year the Master of the Award Ceremonies was the 1988, 1992, 1996 swimming Olympic Bronze & Silver Medallist and VOC Vice President, Nicole Livingstone OAM. Jake was one a few students chosen to participate in the Special Olympics and is winner of the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Jake was presented with the award by special guest, The Hon. Martin Dixon MLA, Minister for Education. Jake is a promising athlete and deserving recipient of this year’s award.
